Shires

Shires are friendly giants. Large and massive horses with long mane and much hair at the stockings.
The most occurring colour is black with four white stockings and a white blaze.
Other common colours are dark-bay, light-bay (both in combination with white stockings and blaze) and grey.

In the Netherlands tails are mostly long and carried lose.
In England lose tails on show are not common.

The dimensions of a Shire are enormous, a withers height of 17 hands high (1.85 mtrs) and a weight of a ton are usual. Shires can be fed with normal horse food, there are no special demands. Even: horsefood with to much protein is not appropriate for a Shire. Thats why the costs for feeding a Shire are not extremely high, although a Shire - of course - needs a greater quantity of food than an average horse.

Beacause of their steady character and willingness to work Shires are very well manageable and reliable in traffic. If you are looking for a reliable horse with a friendly character a Shire might be a good choice for you. Shire horses have an ideal character, are friendly and reliable and are attachted to their owner.
Shires are carefull with children.

Our shires

************************************************************

Every year we breed several foals and now and then we have a full grown Shire of good quality for sale.
Our Shires are not just show horses but can be used on a recreational basis, for riding on horseback as well as in front of a carriage. We strive for a type of Shire that is a bit more 'fancy' than the average. A riding horse should be comfortable, manageable and souple.

Training under the saddle of young horses (of all breeds) is one of the main activities of our stable.
A lot of these young horses are Shires, but horses of other breeds are just as welcome.

Also full grown Shires which have never been under the saddle before are given a basic training in a few weeks.
Last year we showed a large gelding on an exhibition after only one week of training.
